Jimmy Carter...a voice of reason

In my search for some information on another topic I came across this by Jimmy Carter regarding men using religious speak to subjugate and oppress women...then declare that God orders it to be so. Its an interesting read and I advise others to give it a look.

"This view that women are somehow inferior to men is not restricted to one religion or belief. It is widespread. Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths."

He speaks from a Christian perspective but of course you can insert any religion, including Islam, into the space and have the same result.

"Nor, tragically, does its influence stop at the walls of the church, mosque, synagogue or temple. This discrimination, unjustifiably attributed to a Higher Authority, has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women's equal rights across the world for centuries. The male interpretations of religious texts and the way they interact with, and reinforce, traditional practices justify some of the most pervasive, persistent, flagrant and damaging examples of human rights abuses."

I love Jimmy!

You are not alone in your bloggy confusions. Other blog owners have a similar difficulty.

Hopefully Nawal's suggestion will work for you!

To make a link....

first copy the URL like you did when you put it in your post...the http thingie. You got it copied?

Great. :)

Then go to your "new post" where you are writing your text in Blogger.

Highlight the text where you want your link. You can say "Click Here" or "Source" or "Article" and highlight that, but DON'T hit copy or paste.

NOW...time for that link!

See the box that looks like a chain link with a green earth behind it? It's between the colorful square with the T and the left margin tab. See it?

Hit it and you will see a place for the URL that you copied. Paste the URL there and hit "OK" and your link should be created.

Now you can be a pro! :)

You know what I think God really wants all of us to do? ....It's as simple as this... be nice to each other, treat everyone good, treat the opposite sex with respect, I could go on and on but you get the point. It's as simple as that. Everyone has a conscience and knows right from wrong. When a guy is beating his wife he knows its wrong, when a guy robs a bank he knows its wrong regardless of what religion you are. I think its just common sense that women should have the same rights as men. God would not force a woman in Afghanistan to let her child die because she did not have a male escort to take her and her son to the hospital. This is all just common sense and the people who make these stupid rules do so for their own benefit. Religion is just an excuse. We all have a conscience and know right from wrong.

Lol...thanks guys...will give the linky thing a try next post.

Cicily...common sense seems in short supply these days...and when it comes to religion...a lot of common sense is replaced by pure nonsense...all in the name of God.

Not quite the affect He was aiming for I think.

I put my comment on the wrong post, sorry. There was a link in this post and when I clicked it, it took me right to the Jimmy Carter article. so it worked,

Life would be simpler and everyone treated equally if we followed the simple words of Jesus. Do unto others as you would have done unto you.

Hey Red,

I like the quotes. Jimmy Carter is a good man and certainly tried harder than any other President to bring peace to the middle east. I'm afraid he wasn't very affective but his intentions were certainly good.

Here's hoping Obama can accomplish more. Fat Too

BW...the Golden Rule is a basic human attribute that we should all aspire too.

Fat Too...funny enough people veiw him as some sort of bumpkin...meanwhile he has never strayed from his course of finding peace someway...without bloodshed.

CM...thanks...will take a look.

Women had no place of any standing in any religion then or maybe even now because men were too busy heating up their long overdued seats.
Women were made to feel guilty of being females in a world where some men believed they deserve never to feel anything powerless. If they wanted to prove anything, always they attack the women first.
Sometimes it's just not religion alone. It can also be secularity or racism.
