Poor Me...and all that crap!!

* the spacing is still not working properly...damn!!

I dont have an A.C. to start the summer with and so the temperatures in my room have been rather humid and sweaty to say the least. Last night I literally melted into the fabric of my bed while having the fan on full blast and the ice chips on standby. How do people live like this!!!! And the real Summer hasnt even started yet...argghhhh!!!

I figured I would have a nice cool shower and wash off the melted fat and sweat. Unfortunately the water tank is on the roof so there is no such thing as having a cool shower...unless I wish to have it at 3 am.

To just add that bit more to my comfort levels I had a nagging toothache that was just bad enough to keep me from sleeping well....not that I could sleep well given that I was trying to sleep in a sauna....sigh!!
At least I wish I had a puppy to make it all better and help to forget my worries...but Im sure with the luck Ive been having it would get run over or something...sigh!!!
I hope the weekend ends better than it started.

AA- CR,

How does one get "literally melted into the fabric"?

Must be a neat trick. :-)

I've been there with the no a/c. Wet wash cloths are good, wipe yourself down with them and let the fan run on you, then swing the wash cloth back and forth to cool it down and then wipe yourself down again, keep doing this until you cool down or get so tired you get delirious and fall asleep from exaustion. LOL The other thing you can do is to use a spray bottle full of water and spray yourself every 30 seconds, problem is if its humid the evaporating water off of your body may make it even more humid. You can also eat one popsicle after another like my sister used to do, this is really efective but unfortunately it only last a few minutes and then you have to eat another bag. LOL This can also get expensive. So what you can do is freeze those small dixie paper cups full of coolaid and eat them nonstop all day long this is effective and costs much less (do they have cool-aid there?) This will provide you with non stop flavored ice all day long, be careful you don't chip a tooth though. The sugar keeps the ice from getting hard but unfortunately it freezes un even so some parts don't have enough sugar and it creates massive hard spots, of course in that kind of heat they should soften up fast. Another thing you can do is (first I should ask do you mind sleeping in one of those plastic kids pools) put the pool in your living room and fill it with ice and water and get in. Eventually you will be freezing your ass off and need blankets! LOL Sadly I have used all these techniques myself and they do work. Your last option is to move to Alaska where this will never be a problem again! It will be dark most of the year, but once you go insane you won't notice! This will solve all your problems!

Naeem...neat trick but not one I like performing..sigh.

San Antonio...I like the kiddy pool idea..might give it a try. Also moving to Alaska has merit...Im pretty sure Im fully on the road to losing my mind...so no great loss there. Thanks for the hot tips...lol...and for the giggles.

I remember well the nights of not being able to sleep for all the heat. What I would do then is I would dampen a large towel, like a beach towel and I would use it as a blanket with the fan blowing on me as well. Give that a try.

Ice water treatment--a previous psychiatric modality of treatment for the psychotic! Cure all ills in one--better make it a rectangular kiddie pool, or you will get curvature of the spine!! LOL :)

San Antonio Cicily said...

For real the beach towel does sound like a good idea I never thought of that one!

coolred38 said...

Queen... that sounds like a great idea. Will give it a try.

Chiara...was thinking that considering my girth...I might need a dolphin rather than kiddie pool...sigh.

San Antonio...me either.

"with the luck Ive been having it would get run over or something..."

That really made me laugh, CoolRed!

Happy Mother's Day!

Chiara said...

Have you thought of the BSPCA for a pet? Not a dolphin of course--I'm sure the kiddie pool would fit just fine. Now if you want Dudley in there with you that's another story!

coolred38 said...

Janice...happy to tickle your funny bone and thanks.

Chiara...Dudley would be my floaty...lol. Ive checked the SPCA and they have all the large street dogs pretty much and I would prefer a nice little doggie that will fit in my flat well. Havent found one yet. I asked her if a small dog came in would she tell me and she got rather upset..."we are not in the market to sell dogs...we home them".

Well ok then.

I invested in thi heavy duty fan and put it right beside my face when I had this problem. Helped a little, but gosh I feel so bad for you sweetie. You become so tired and can't cook, can't do anything when it's that hot.

I know it's probably a bad idea, but I think the masjid should at least be available to help out. Their supposed to be good for something, and quite honestly, you are a far more deserving candidate. I am appalled if they aren't willing. I know they haven't been very pleasant most likely though Coolred dear.

I hope the weekend gets better sweetie. I pray too that you get a puppy and most of all, get outta there. Happy mother's day and love you very much!

A puppy, or any other pet, is an added responsibility (= $$$) that I certainly would not want to add to the mix if I were in your position.

Lisa...thank you for the comment.

Queen...have you been talking to my mother...come on...you can tell me.

Oh my lord, you poor thing without the a/c. We're into the 40s here and I am a miserable mess going outside.

My wish for you is that God eases all of these burdens you have and you have some peace in your life. :*(

You could hop on a flight to Oman and we could chill out together!!! :)

CoolRed: Your story about the shower reminds me of the time three years ago when I came back from a trip and had to pick my car up at the Phoenix airport. It was 122 outside and my nearly brand-new car would NOT start. (Eventually it did, after a thunderstorm blew through and dropped the temps 20 degrees.) During this, I made the AWESOME discovery that the emergency water I kept in the car for, well, emergencies, was hot as #%^&@!!! Yes, I used a few swear words when I realized the water was at least 130 and probably closer to 150. So now I've learned that emergency water is REALLY for emergencies.

During power outages here in AZ (inevitably during a dust storm at 115 degrees, so no opening windows), I've wrapped myself in a wet sheet (dampened in the bathtub) to keep cool. Then I try to sleep. The sheet dries out and eventually the power comes back on.

You poor baby! I cannot live without AC!!! In FL during hurricane season, sometimes we lost electricity for as much as 3 weeks in the middle of summer - it was the pits! I feel for ya!

coolred38 said...

L_Oman...my hopping days are over...last time I tried a small earthquake insued...but thanks all the same...lol.

Mirele...imagine this. Over people generally use water to clean up with after using the toilet...during the summer you need to clean up pretty damn quick or else your nether regions will be charbroiled...no lie. Not exactly comfortable.

Susie...thanks for the commiseration. The ac fixers came for the third time to take it to the shop...problem is...its seems to be a lost cause but they are not willing to accept defeat.

Hey coolred! Another thing you can do is drink a cup of hot tea or another hot drink when it is that hot. It sounds terrible, but it seems to work. Also taking a warm/hot shower too before you go to bed. It sounds a bit counter intuitive, but if worse comes to worse, try it. I do this when it gets too hot and it works for me!

But then, maybe I'm weird 'cause I live in an area with winters that are too long (and dark, like San Antonio Cicily said), and short summers that can surprisingly get hot :)

To the SPCA lady: "Of course, if you have a small dog I would love to home him/her, please call me."
Was she a non-native speaker, a stickler for language Brit, or a hyper politically correct American?
LOL :)

Dudley as a floatie--an interesting idea. Or perhaps a "significant other" as a floatie? LOL :)

coolred38 said...

Mel....thanks for the advice...I think...lol. Drinking hot things and taking hot showers during the hot summer seems odd...but what do I know...shall see what happens.

Chiara...she was a very proper British lady who seemed upset I was looking for something specific...assuming you just come there and let the doggy choose you...not you choose it....or so I gather from her speech.

cold water is easy.

switch OFF your hotwater tank assuming the heater is inside the house

when you want to have a shower, turn the HOT tap on full and leave the COLD tap off

voila

cold water

coolred38 said...

Fred...would love to switch off water tank but I have this habit of washing my dishes with hot water...cold just doesnt do it for me....but I know your idea works cause I did that in my other flat. Thanks tho.

oh no! Why don't you have AC?

This made me so sad. I love to sleep and I love my AC :(

coolred38 said...

Suroor...I dont have an ac because when I went to america and came back all my things were gone that I had before...have to start over...and havent had money to get a new ac...or even an old one. Poor me.

what I do is about 30 minutes of exercize and get a good sweat on. Once I have that 1 major sweat my body temp cools and I feel so much better.

coolred38 said...

hijabwoes...this whole "exercise" thing...whats that about again?

Mr. Condescending said...

Still hot?
