New Blog People...Feel Free to Stop By...

http://fightingthefatat40.blogspot.com/

Ive started a new blog to help me get my shit together and lose some of this weight. I pine for the days when I was fit and healthy and able to run a flight of stairs or even bend over and tie my shoes without having a major breakdown.

Some people drink, others do drugs...and still others smoke. I have never been able to point my finger at them and shame them for their "addictions" because Im suffering from my own addiction...it is food....and I want to quit.

Please join me over there as I need copious amounts of encouragement and ass kicking to get me through it. Im like that. I need a star chart with lots of handclapping and a few ooh's and aah's. Feel free to do both if and when necessary.

June 1, 2009...I hope its the start of something good.

Hey Cool...it's been a while since I've blogged. I see you're trying to lose weight. Let me tell you from experience, and from living with an insanely healthy man whose family have owned gyms, etc. No matter how much you work out...you will NEVER lose weight until you change the way you use and view food. I would suggest you start with Dr. Andrew Weil's "8 weeks to optimum health". And, don't listen to anyone regarding food unless they are in shape, because believe me...they are the one's always ready to ask questions and get you to doubt what you're doing (oh yea...and this goes for naturally skinny women who have never had a weight problem, or anyone under 30 who hasn't experienced the slow down of their metabolism). It's not a diet...it's a lifestyle change. It would be great it you had access to a better quality of food...which I don't see in Bahrain...but you have to work with what you have. Cut your meat intake to once a day (and limit to 6 ozs, about the size of the palm of your hand)...dump the sodas (even diet sodas contribute to weight gain and the chemicals are toxic), and fake fruit juices...get a juicer and juice your own and you can drink as much as you want...don't snack on crap (potato chips, baked goods, or candy). How do I know all of this. I am a naturally skinny woman who had never had to work out...and I gained 40 pounds while on some medication. I was depressed, I was used to looking fabulous in my clothes...I went from a 6 to a 12!!! It was horrible and depressing. I went vegetarian, and organic (your body has to process those toxins as well and when it can't it stores it in your fat cells, causing disease, bloating, and imflammation), and I lost 40 pounds in a year...and I didn't go to the gym once. And, that's for real. Good Luck!!

hey red

good idea, i'm working on my own extra poundage. I'm down 20lbs so far but still a long way to go.

tips that have worked for me, write down everything you eat in a food diary. Eat four of five small meals a day. measure portions and count calories at least until you have a pretty good eye for portion sizes. I only weigh myself once a week and as long as I keep my calories between 1600 and 1800 per day I don't berate myself. I have started doing treadmill. I'm up to two miles per day, four to five days per week.

I have also started using the Alli meds but never more than two perday. I know a lot of people use them 3 times perday but I don't eat much fat in my breakfasts. In case you aren't familiar with them these are a non perscription pill that U.S.Food and Drug has approved here in US for weight loss. They work by absorbing some of the fat you consume so it passed on through w/o your body absorbing it. Check the ALLI web site if you are interested. I am not a sales person for this product and have no interest in it's sales so if you can find a different brand with the same active ingrediants then go with that if it's cheaper.

Alternate: Great going!!/Get going!!/Great going!!/Get going!!...

Good idea to blog your way to renewed health and happiness. Such wonderful new steps for you!

Are you American-based children en route to Bahrain?

Congratulations Sweetie! I have alternated by not eating, and over-eating. I also don't do drugs and hate the taste of alcohol, so this is my addiction.

One thing that really has helped is going gluten-free and eliminating bread. I'm allergic to most raw fruits and veggies (Scandinavian pollen and mugwart pollen allergy) and changed my diet accordingly. Really helps. The other way to go is to just eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, maybe Cheerios. I did that a lot and lost 10 pounds without any exercise. When I was hungry, a bowl of Cheerio's.

I can't wait to go along with you on this journey! Good luck sweetie and love you!

Chiara...ty for the cheer. Kids are trickling back throughout the month of June.

Lisa...ty for the encourgement. I love cereal in the morning. Havent had it that much lately tho. Got out of the habit of having breakfast...which considering my size is strange...lol.

Oh, I can't wait to visit the new blog! I'll not only support you, but hopefully take inspiration for myself. I am also a food addict, and overweight, and I pine for the days...

If you are looking for advice, I have just one, short directive: stop overeating. You know all the rest.

That said, I hasten to add a cliche that fits our addiction better than any other: Easier said than done.

Hey Red,

I just left a note on your other blog but couldn't resist checking in here. Perhaps the traffic is related to the Obama visit to Saudi?

I don't understand the twitter business. Don't know how to do that. Hope you won't abandon the blog in favor of twitter.
