Information Wanted Dear Readers....!

So heres my problem...such as it is. My sis will be arriving tomorrow nite at midnight. This is her first visit to Bahrain and she is only staying for a week...I need some good ideas on what to do with her while she is here. Places to take...sites to see...clubs to visit...anything like that to make her one week stay something interesting.

My problem is that Ive been here 21 years...but 20 years of that was spent with a "man" that didnt allow me to go anywhere as everything was "haram"..and since Ive divorced Ive been too busy working and being a single mom to bother with exploring Bahrain and seeing what it has to offer...other than the museum, tree of life and Seef Mall...lol.

For sure there is the Gold Souk...Al Fateh Mosque...Bab Al Bahrain etc...but are there any tucked away places of interest anyone can recommend...any nice place to eat or coffee shop with a great atmosphere etc...let me know...Im up for a little exploring myself. Thanks in advance.

A couple more ideas:
Mezzaluna restaurant, the tree of life, hawar isand for a night or two, and a boat ride

Did I post this? Maybe not...Suggestions from a Bahrain teachers' forum:

You can also pay to use the Private beach, which is well worth it considering that Bahrain strangely lacks any decent public Beaches.

The best Shisha cafe is situated next to the HSBC in Adliya. Amazing Burgers, steak's, Jucies and the fastest wifi connection i have ever seen!

Other restaurants worth checking out are Upstairs Downstairs and monsoon, Both in adliya.

The junk food monster in me wants to write.... For someone who has never had the Pleasure....A Burger at Fuddruckers and a Milk shake from Dairy Queen is an Absolute must!!

The Museum of the Holy Koran has also been suggested. :)

Thank you Abu Dhabi....those are some great ideas. I shall endeavor to keep her head spinning while frantically stuffing all those spots into our itinerary...along with dozens of others friends have mentioned. She wont have time to blink...lol.

You know, I face a similar problem..a friend is visiting Bahrain for the first time and for the life of me I can't figure out wt to plan...My mum once planned a get to know Bahrain excursion, we went to the forts, the musuem..If your sister is a history buff, she would enjoy these as well as Bait al Quran, Al-Areen etc.

How bout the new theme park that opened up? The lost eden or what not. And the new Adhari.

I enjoy Pomodoro's (Golden Tulip). The band is a 2 man show but they are quite good. A friend and I once once went for a whole day at the Ritz, we Kayaked, swam , sat in the jacuzzi, it was fun.

Have her do some of the cheap things in Bahrain that would be expensive in the US> A facial and a massage (Profile Salon gives a great European facial), morrocan bath, pampering yourself is relatively cheap in Bahrain.

In terms of food, I still have a soft spot for Al Tarboush Restaurant (I love their buffet and they used (I haven't been in yrs) have a live band.

I am sure whatever you do, you two will have a blast!

Coolred,

A slew of ideas came through on this thread-some may not be of interest to you, but there are some great one about the archeological museum, the national museum (exhibit on Masks currently), and a place called The Tea Cup. "located just beyond Aswaq Al Awafi (a super market) on Exhibition Road (on the right, if you are driving south)."

Hope this gives you lots to work with!

if she's into water and so are you, spend a day out at the Lost Paradise of Dilmun right near the F1 circuit ;-)

There's lots to do

Since the weather is getting a bit hotter, it's a good idea to check out Al-Dar Island or go to the Lost Paradise of Dilmun with the kids to do a bit of swimming.

You could take her down to Muharraq Souq to taste some freshly made Halwa (and see the reaction on her face when she tastes it!)

Beit Al-Quran is also excellent, and the Bahrain Fort with its new museum is worth visiting.

YOu might just catch the Masks Exhibition in the museum as it will end by the end of this month on the 30th June.

feel free to email me if you like any more ideas

There's lots to do in Bahrain for people who don't live here. I love Candles Cafe off Adliya Road, its cool. You must take her down to Banyan Tree. Its gorgeous!!! They've got 2 restaurants that serve great food & you can see the desert & the BIC on the way. Its worth the drive!!
